Oda Nobunaga The Demon King of SW

a major daimyo during the Sengoku period of Japanese history. He was the second son of Oda Nobuhide, a deputy shugo (military governor) with land holdings in Owari province.[1][2] Nobunaga lived a life of continuous military conquest, eventually conquering a third of Japanese daimyo before his death in 1582.

Life

Oda Nobunaga was born on June 23, 1534, at Nagoya Castle and was given the childhood name of Kippōshi (吉法師?).[1][2] His mother was Tsuchida Gozen, Nobuhide's wife, making him Nobuhide's first legitimate son; therefore, by the age of two, he became the ruler of Nagoya Castle. Through his childhood and early teenage years, he was well known for his bizarre behavior and received the name of Owari no Ōutsuke (尾張の大うつけ? The Fool of Owari). With the introduction of firearms into Japan, though, he became known for his fondness of Tanegashima firearms. He was also known to run around with other youths from the area, without any regard to his own rank in society.

Unification of Owari Province

In 1551, Oda Nobuhide died unexpectedly and, during his funeral, Nobunaga was said to have acted outrageously, throwing the ceremonial incense at the altar.[citation needed] This act alienated many Oda retainers, convincing them of Nobunaga's mediocrity and lack of discipline and they began to side with his more soft-spoken and well-mannered brother, Nobuyuki. Hirate Masahide, who was a valuable mentor and retainer to Nobunaga, was ashamed by Nobunaga's behavior and performed seppuku. This had a huge effect on Nobunaga, who later built a temple to honor Masahide.[1]

Though Nobunaga was Nobuhide's legitimate successor, the Oda clan was divided into many factions. Furthermore, the entire clan was technically under the control of Owari's shugo, Shiba Yoshimune. Thus, Oda Nobutomo, as the brother to the deceased Nobuhide and deputy of Owari Province's shugo (who used the powerless Yoshimune as his puppet), was able to challenge Nobunaga's place as Owari Provinces's new ruler. Nobutomo murdered Yoshimune when it was discovered that he supported and attempted to aid Nobunaga.

To increase his power, Nobunaga persuaded Oda Nobumitsu, a younger brother of Nobuhide, to join his side and, with Nobumitsu's help, slew Nobutomo in Kiyosu Castle, which later became Nobunaga's place of residence for over ten years. Taking advantage of the position of Shiba Yoshikane, Yoshimune's son, as the rightful shugo, Nobunaga forged an alliance with the Imagawa clan of Suruga Province and the Kira clan of Mikawa Province, as both clans had the same shugo and would have no excuse to decline. Additionally, this also ensured that the Imagawa clan would have to stop attacking Owari's borders.

Even though Nobuyuki and his supporters were still at large, Nobunaga decided to bring an army to Mino Province to aid Saitō Dōsan after Dōsan's son, Saitō Yoshitatsu, turned against him. The campaign failed, however, as Dōsan was killed and Yoshitatsu became the new master of Mino in 1556.

A few months later, Nobuyuki, with the support of Shibata Katsuie and Hayashi Hidesada, rebelled against Nobunaga. The three conspirators were defeated at the Battle of Inō, but they were pardoned after the intervention of Tsuchida Gozen, the birth mother of both Nobunaga and Nobuyuki. The next year, however, Nobuyuki again planned to rebel. When Nobunaga was informed of this by Shibata Katsuie, he faked illness to get close to Nobuyuki and assassinated him in Kiyosu Castle.

By 1559, Nobunaga had eliminated all opposition within the clan and throughout Owari Province. He continued to use Shiba Yoshikane as an excuse to make peace with other daimyo, although it was later discovered that Yoshikane had secretly corresponded with the Kira and Imagawa clans, trying to oust Nobunaga and restore the Shiba clan's place. Nobunaga eventually cast him out, making alliances created in the Shiba clan's name void.

Battle of Okehazama

Main article: Battle of Okehazama

In 1560, Imagawa Yoshimoto gathered an army of 25,000 men[1][3] and started his march toward Kyoto, with the excuse of aiding the frail Ashikaga shogunate. The Matsudaira clan of Mikawa Province was also to join Yoshimoto's forces. In comparison, the Oda clan could rally an army of only 1,800, and the forces would also have to be split up to defend various forts at the border. Under such dire circumstances, Nobunaga was said to have performed his favorite Atsumori dance, before riding off with only a few attendants to pray in a shrine.

The Oda clan's generals did not believe that they would win this impossible war. Only the night before, Shibata Katsuie had tried in vain to change Oda Nobunaga's mind about a frontal attack; he kept reminding Nobunaga of the joint army's complete lack of manpower compared to the Imagawa soldiers, who, according to rumors, numbered 40,000 men. Hayashi Sado no Kami Hidesada, the remaining advisor from Nobuhide's days, even argued for surrender without fighting, using the same reasoning as Katsuie. Upon this advice, according to the clan's chronicler, Nobunaga yelled:

"Imagawa has 40,000 men marching toward this place? I don't believe that. He 'only' has 25,000 soldiers. Yes, that is still too many. So, Sado, you want me to surrender. What if we do surrender? Will you get content with losing your life that way? Or what if we hold on like Katsuie wants me to? What if we stay here in this castle, lock it up, and wait until the Imagawas lose appetite and stop the siege and go home? We will be able to prolong our lives for 5 or 10 days, and what we cannot defend will still be undefendable. We are at the bottom of the pit, you know. And our fate is interesting. Of course the misery is too great, too. But this is how I see it: this is a chance in a lifetime. I can't afford to miss this. Do you really want to spend your entire lives praying for longevity? We were born in order to die! Whoever is with me, come to the battlefield tomorrow morning. Whoever is not, just stay wherever you are and watch me win it!"

Nobunaga was right; Yoshimoto deliberately leaked the highly exaggerated number of his soldiers out to scare the Oda clan, and the official chronicler of the Imagawas put it down as was usual in medieval battle records to exaggerate numbers.

Nobunaga's scouts reported that Yoshimoto was resting his troops at a place called Dengaku-hazama, near a little village named Okehazama. It was countryside that Nobunaga knew well. Dengaku-hazama was a narrow gorge, an ideal place for a surprise attack if the conditions were right. The scouts added that the Imagawa army were celebrating their victories with food and drink while Yoshimoto viewed the heads. So Nobunaga moved up towards Imagawa's camp, and set up a position some distance away. An array of flags and dummy troops made of straw and spare helmets gave the impression of a large host, while the real Oda army hurried round in a rapid march to get behind Yoshimoto's camp. Fortune, and the weather, favoured Nobunaga, for about mid-day the stifling heat gave way to a terrific thunderstorm. As the Imagawa samurai sheltered from the rain Nobunaga deployed his troops, and when the storm ceased they charged down upon the enemy in the gorge. So sudden was the attack that Yoshimoto thought a brawl had broken out among his men. He realized it was an attack when two samurai charged up. One aimed a spear at him, which Yoshimoto deflected with his sword, but the second swung his blade and cut off Imagawa's head.

Rapidly weakening, the Imagawa clan no longer exerted control over the Matsudaira clan. In 1561, an alliance was forged between Oda Nobunaga and Matsudaira Motoyasu (later Tokugawa Ieyasu), despite the decades-old hostility between the two clans. Tradition dates this battle as the time that Nobunaga first noticed the talents of the sandal bearer who would eventually become Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Personal items guide

Notes: The purpose of this guide was to provide everyone with one source for the requirements to collect all characters personal items (PI).

Version 2.2
- Added KO requirement for Da Ji
- Added English names of the ambushing Orochi officers for Orochi's PI
- Revised notes for Ina's & Mitsuhide's PI
- Confirmed KO count for Zhu Rong's PI

******************************************************************************

- The information contained in this guide was gathered from posts by GameFAQs members such as Cheng, Uzume, opfer_gv & others (including some from here ).

- I have only gathered the general requirements to get each character's PI, not in-depth step-by-step walkthroughs (Mitsuhide is the exception). For in-depth help, please consult the Unlocking in Musou Orochi Help Thread. Wherever possible, however, I've listed some helpful tips including item locations, time limits, etc.

- Do to the difficulty of obtaining certain characters' items, namely Mitsuhide Akechi, Nobunaga Oda & Lu Bu, I have posted recommended methods for these characters. There is no plan at this time to add methods for all characters.

- Please note, I have not personally confirmed all of these methods. Again, if you experience any trouble or need help in any way, please consult the Unlocking in Musou Orochi Help Thread. If you notice any errors, please PM me or post in the Help thread.

- Every effort has been made, and continues to be made, to make sure that the EXACT requirements are listed. This is not an easy task as it involves thorough testing of requirements that were originally written for the import version, Musou Orochi. With that said, there may be some characters that have more than the necessary requirements listed. In those cases, following the guide should still get you the item.

- The characters are grouped according to their "new" WO affiliation (e.g. Hanzo Hattori is listed w/ Wu), roughly in the order in which they are unlocked/available by stage. Also, despite traditional naming conventions, I have arranged names in the order they would appear in the game (e.g. Lu Bu & Sakon Shima) (sorry BlackKite).

- Can be obtained on ANY difficulty level in either Free or Story mode

- You CAN obtain certain characters personal items at the same time

- When you have completed the requirements successfully, you will receive "A unique item has reportedly been discovered! Hurry to claim it!"

- The item location can be found by checking the history and highlighting the "unique item" message

- The color of the boxes may differ from the JP import version. I tried to verify the colors today for both SW & DW characters. For both, I got a black box with golden trim. Previously, I got items from a box that looks like Goemon's treasure boxes in Shu 4-X. In any case, the box will look different than the ones normally laying around the levels. Break it open to reveal the ITEM bag icon.

- To verify that you have the item, you can check the lower right-hand corner of the Team Info screen (select the character) & it will display the unique item & its name. Also, on the character select screen, a little box shows up to the right of the character model icons. Finally, the 4th picture in the Gallery will show up once you have the item.

Sengoku (SW) Characters

Nobunaga Oda (Sengoku Story 1) - Painted Scroll of Atsumori
Before Cao Pi arrives, do the following:
• Defeat 500
• Defeat 6-7 officers personally
• Form an alliance with Guan Ping & Huang Zhong
• Huang Zhong & Guan Ping must have 80%+ life
Note: Defeating a certain number of officers (8) will trigger Cao Pi so keep an eye on how many officers you defeat. It does not matter if Guan Ping is ambushed or not, but watch his health. Item appears in the middle fort after the "allied forces are advancing" event.

Recommended Method from Lord Blade:
- Defeat Cao Ren before he talks (keeps Mitsunari outside the castle)
- Defeat a bunch of grunts in the middle area, as well as one of the two officers there (the one in the center fort, not the corner one)
- Go over to Guan Ping & wait for him to get ambushed, then defeat the two ambush officers
- Go over to Huang Zhong
- Go over to Mitsunari, & defeat a bunch of his goons (this should bring you up to 7 officers defeated)
- Defeated grunts until you get to 500

Recommended Method from Uzume:
- Head to meet Guan Ping first
- Go inside deal with Mitsunari & company
- Get 500 KO
- Around 475 KO, go defeat remaining officers for officer KO & trigger Cao Pi's arrival

NOTE: These are only recommendations & there are other ways to get the item, just make sure you fullfill the basic requirements. Also, triggering the "allied forces are advancing" counterattack event does NOT need to be done before Cao Pi arrives.

Mitsuhide Akechi (Sengoku Story 4) - Poetry of Atago Hyakuin
Within 12 minutes, do the following:
• Save and escort SAKON (he must not take ANY damage)
• Defeat 300
Note: If ANY officer enters your base, Sakon will go after Dong Zhou instead of escaping. Sakon can receive damage even if he stays on the horse the whole time. Recommend doing this on Easy difficulty (this may be required but has not been confirmed yet). Item appears in NW corner.

Recommended Method from Uzume:
Clear all red on lower path & work right until you reach the northeast. Next defeat Zhang Fei & generic so that Sakon will start moving. Immediately defeat Fuma when he arrives. Dong Zhuo will order 4 of his officers to attack your north gate, defeat them while you are waiting for Sakon to escape. I did not defeat Zhang Liao and let him cross to the west side with Dong Zhuo.

Recommended Method from opfer_gv:
1) Defeat Guan Yu & anyone around on East of Tong gate, & steal his horse (Red Hare) if needed.
2) Run to the east & defeat everyone, close all gates. But DO NOT GO NEAR Dong Zhuo, also leave at least one officer around him.
3) When you're done, retreat back to Tong gate & defeat all the officers & Zhang Fei at north of gate.
4) When Sakon begins to move, RUN all the way to NE corner & defeat Kotaro and clean up mobs.

Other Characters

Note: Item appears in the northwest fort

Tadakatsu Honda (Sengoku Story 7) - Deerhorn Helmet
• Defeat all enemy officers (except Da Ji)
• Kenshin Uesugi, Shingen Takeda & Kanetsugu Naoe must survive
• Defeat 300
Note: Your allies can steal officer KOs. Item will appear near Da Ji.

Lu Bu (Wu Gaiden 8-X) - Hero's Armor
Within 9 minutes, do the following:
• Defeat 1000
Note: For the JP version, the easiest way to do this is to use Sakon Shima's grab glitch on Masamune & the guard captain near him. For the US/EU version, it is easier to use 2P & combine KO counts.

Recommended Method for 1P from JFunk_316:
- Requirements: Really just Impulse (speed) 20, & hopefully your character speed is maxed as well.
- Move to use: Just one, his C4 with maxed range I hope (Bolt & Flash definitely help)
- Objective: Ultimately get to Masamune's base & get around 650 KOs in 4.5 minutes

When you start the battle, go up & defeat the first 15 troopers you see, then turn left at the top, & wipe out everything you see that comes with Lu Kuang, Chen Lan, & Lei Bo in that order ASAP. Work your way to the left bottom corner take out the base captain. However, leave Sidewinder alive, in fact, completely ignore him. When you reach the bottom, Lu Xun will join your squad, let the A.I. take care of him. I will explain shortly why you must do this.

Once the base captain in the bottom is gone, run or ride a fast horse, whichever you prefer & get to Cao Xing on the top FAST. Defeat anything that comes to you, but don't go out of your way to defeat one or two, its not worth it. At this point, you pretty much fight your way up to the area where the defense captain is holding the entrance to Lu Bu's area. Of course you wanna ignore them, but in that area, I believe there are 3 generals with good amount of troops, you can get a few quickies in before the next step.

As I said earlier, to keep Sidewinder alive on the bottom for Lu Xun, the reason why that is a must is because it buys you time to get from the bottom to the top & anything you defeat along the way. If you defeat the bottom 4 generals ASAP, Sakon Shima will send out the engineers right away which forces Masamune to charge, this is not the best way to maximize the onslaught at his base.

You shouldn't over kill at the top area, just whatever comes at you or around you, unless the enemies in the next area comes to you, don't go for them if you can. On this stage, time is your only enemy keep that in mind. The next step is crucial in my strategy, it is the key to your success or failure. As you run to Masamune's base, you will come across Tsunenaga Hasekura, you should annihilate him and all his man, but more importantly, this is precisely the time where you want Sakon Shima to send his engineers. If Sakon sends the engineers too soon, Masamune will take all the soldiers from that base to the frontline which lessens the respawn rate of the that base, if he sends them too late, you will have to waste time wait for him to leave. If you time it perfectly, you should run into that base just as Masamune is out, so that you can lure the base captain away & start to build up your KO. I would recommend you to have around 325-350 KOs & time around 56-55.45, otherwise you would have a difficult time to get enough KOs in time. On top of that, when the base respawns at full capacity, you should get 2 sets of footmen & 1 set of the blueish servant of the serpent king. That means 15 of them must come out continuously from the very start, if not, you have no chance. According to my calculation, you can get about 150-160 KOs per minute if all of them regenerate.

Some of you might be wondering why all of a sudden that base stops sending out troops, that is because Masamune has broke through the coalition frontline & took over a base down there, if he gets in too deep his men will no longer respawn from that base.

I actually got mine on hard, because you can build up bigger KOs easier before you even reach Masamune's base. I wouldn't really recommend doing this on Easy, at least Normal. However, it could work. I tried it on Easy, & got around 950 KOs in 9 minutes.

• Defeat enemy reinforcements (Ieyasu Tokugawa & Dong Zhuo)

History

This section was created to provide a link to the Personal Item Analysis FAQ by Roahm Mythril. Basically, if you're interested in the history behind the names of the Personal Items, his guide provides plenty of information for each character. He also sites his sources of information in case you wish to do further research. It's a shame his guide was not able to be posted to GameFAQs since it is very informative, well organized & well written. I encourage all readers of this guide to check out the link below:

If you would like to contribute to his FAQ, Roahm has listed ways to get in touch with him in his FAQ. I hope you enjoy reading it as I have!

******************************************************************************

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. What difficulty does it have to be to get personal items?

A. You can obtain personal items on ANY difficulty level but keep in mind that sometimes an easier difficulty means that your allies can die faster due to having shorter life bars.

Q. Can these be unlocked in Free mode?

A. Yes, personal items can be obtained playing either Story or Free mode.

Q. Do you need to only use the character you're getting the personal item for?

A. Yes, for completing certain requirements such as if it says to defeat certain officers or defeat a certain amount of people, then you need to use that character. Certain characters need to trigger events & that can be done using another character. Also, for KO requirements, you can use 2P to help (e.g. Lu Bu 1000 KOs can be 600 for 1P + 400 for 2P).

Q. How do you know you have the person’s PI?

A. First, you will receive a "unique item" message when you have successfully completed the requirements. Then you have to locate the item on the map & break open the box to collect the item bag. After the level is complete, it will display the name of the item & tell you that your character's abilities have been enhanced. After that, you can see the unique item listed under the Team Info screen in the bottom right corner or on the character select screen there will be a box to the right of the character model icons.

Q. I got the unique item message but I can't find the item?

A. Check the history & highlight the unique item message for the location

Q. Are you not allowed to load interim saves while getting a personal item?

A. No, you CAN use the interim save feature at any time while obtaining a character's personal item. Saving either before or after receiving the "unique item" message does not reset your progress, so you should still be able to retrieve the personal item successfully.

Q. I can't complete the requirements in time because people keep talking.

A. The Pause feature is your friend. If time is an issue & there are a lot of conversations or messages appearing on screen, pausing during a speech will allow the voices to continue while stopping the timer. Also, certain characters talk less than others, such as Wei Yan.

Q. The FAQ is wrong again, someone needs to update it.

A. Many apologies for the inconvenience, but with 79 characters and many thousands of people playing this game right now, someone is going to find something wrong at some point in time. I'll continue to update this as I am able to, & thanks again to Uzume, opfer_gv & everyone else who has provided the correct methods when the guide is in need of updating.

Q. Can you get multiple personal items in the same stage?

A. Yes, you can. Zhao Yun & Yukimura Sanada is a good example. I will leave the rest to you to figure out, though.

(Thanks to Mr.Honda for making this exclusive for KOEI Warriors...)

Sun Ce of Wu

Sun Ce (175 – 200) was a military general and warlord during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms era in ancient China. He was the eldest of five sons and one daughter of Sun Jian, who was killed in battle when Sun Ce was only sixteen. Sun Ce then broke away from his father's former overlord Yuan Shu and headed into Southeastern China to establish his own power base there. With the help of several capable men, including Zhang Zhao and Zhou Yu, Sun Ce managed to lay down the foundation of the later Eastern Wu, of which his younger brother Sun Quan eventually became the first emperor. After Sun Quan declared himself emperor, he posthumously honored Sun Ce with the title Prince Huan of Changsha (長沙桓王, literally "the diligent prince").

In 200, when the rising warlord Cao Cao was away battling Yuan Shao in the decisive Battle of Guandu, Sun Ce was rumored to be plotting an attack against Cao Cao's capital of Xuchang. However, he was assassinated before he could carry out the plan.

The Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms describes Sun Ce as handsome and full of laughter. He was also a generous and receptive man who could employ people according to their abilities. Thus his subjects were willing to risk their lives for him. One detractor named Xu Gong, in a letter to Emperor Xian, likened Sun Ce to Xiang Yu, the general renowned for overthrowing Qin Dynasty . As Xiang Yu was often referred to as the Conqueror of Chu, Sun Ce henceforth became known as the Little Conqueror in popular culture.

Video games

Sun Ce also appears as a playable character in the popular Dynasty Warriors video game series by Koei. In the third, fourth, and fifth installments of the game, he wields a pair of bamboo tonfa called the "Overlords," and is portrayed as energetic, outgoing, brash, and informal. Although charismatic and well-liked by his troops, he relies on the wisdom and responsibility of his friend, Zhou Yu, to keep him focused and on track. In Dynasty Warriors 5, Sun Ce meets his death due to a curse placed on him by the sorcerer Yu Ji, after Sūn orders his execution. He is succeeded by his brother, Quan, who in stark contrast to Ce, is stolid and detached. Sūn Quan often calls on the strength of his late father and brother during combat, attributing his ability and skill to the spirits of his fallen family guiding his hand.

In Dynasty Warriors 6, Sun Ce's weapon is a single-hooked spear and dons armor similar to that of the ancient Greek muscle cuirass. Although not having a storyline, he is one of the key characters to almost all the Wu storylines, as well as apprearing often in cutscenes. His death in the game commonly was due to arrow shots at the back, at the moment Sun Ce claimed victory.

Sun Ce also makes an appearance in the spin off game, "Warriors Orochi", a combination of the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors series. In the game, Orochi uses the captive Sun Jian to blackmail the Sun family into servitude. Sun Ce is the first to rebel against Orochi, under the guidance of Sakon Shima, and much to the disapproval of his siblings, Quan and Shang Xiang, but he would eventually get them back on his side and save their father. He also has an important role in the other storylines, thus making him one of the main protagonists in the game along with Zhao Yun, Cao Pi, and Oda Nobunaga.
